Description

I always seem to have an urge to do impossible perspectives during art blocks... And it would have been impossible to do too...

This is pretty much a collab between :iconfeather-dancer: and myself

Krystal from StarFox is one of my fave characters, and I have never done a fanart of her. So, I get this urge to do one. How can I make it less boring? A top down perspective! So, I draw the head the best I could from a top down perspective, and show it to ~Feather-Dancer who seems to like it, and helps me fix little details the rest of the night. Then when she was off, it was time to do the body. Oh my, what a monstrocity I turned up. I knew it was going to happen, have the perfect head, and the body is absolute rubbish. I showed what I did to her, and she offers to do a blueline. I'm thinking sure! whatever that is. But those bluelines were the saving grace of this picture. She helped me get the anatomy just right, and I have never been so happy with a piece before. I dare not show what my inital rendition was least you go blind from its horridness. Several bluelines later over the course of one week, and this picture is what it is now :D

Well, thanks to her, I had best perspective and anatomy I've ever done (seriously, my original sketch was rubbish, it would not be anything near this quailty if it wern't for her help). So, I want to go all out on the coloring and detailing. Simple flat shading just would not do for something of this calibur. I had wanted to get it done before courses started, so I rushed as fast as I could (had about a week till they started). I ended up burning myself out, and just about 3 months later due to heavy procrastination (maby a couple hours of work at most each week), I finally finished coloring and detailing Krystal. Of course, I was guided most of the way on shading as well :× And a plain background wouldn't suit this, but thankfully to the long spread of the coloring, I was up to doing a decent background. The background is a vague representation of looking over the path just as you enter Cape Claw. Of course, yet again, I asked for sugestions for background locations, and I was guided in the shading and perspective.

Yes, I know I did seek alot of guidence in doing this, but I wanted it to come out the best I could do.
So, done over the course of 3.5 months, though actual time working on it probably about 28 hours the first two weeks where I worked my arse off and worked with ~Feather-Dancer getting the anatomy and perspective right, then I'll say another 15 hours over the span of the 3 months, for total 43 hours. Overkill for me :×
This was completly done in The Gimp. Krystal was completly mouse drawn, the stave and background were rendered using the path tools.

And I can't stress this enough how this picture would not have been possible if it wern't for the help of ~Feather-Dancer
Even though been working over 3 months on this, I'm still happy with it, which has never happened before with any of my other pieces.

It has been brought to my attention that Krystal's eyes and gem are teal rather than green, and has been fixed :3 Zomg, I forgot how many layers were in there xD
