peepz, the fact that their are more views than downloads is a bit troubling. When clicking link on Sonic-Club page, you are viewing the preview image. You have to full view in order to play the flash game.
And since most people probably aren't reading the whole thing (I dun blame ya, I dun either half the time xP) if you are having difficulty defeating Robotnik at the end, try to keep as many rings possible you get in the cheesey zones because you can use those at the end. If you can't keep more than 75 rings in those two zones, then you are given a handicap and will have 75 rings at your disposal, but with that many if you get hit more than 3 times or miss too many, then you are pretty much SOL
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Ok, this is my first flash game, and animation is not my forté, so bear with me. This game has been a little over a month in the making, and the last two nights I had gone 35+ hours no sleep cause I had the pleasure of having my humanities course end the day before the deadline for the comp
Unfortionatly didn't have the time to add sound.
I had always wanted to try making a game in flash, but never got around to it cause never had the motivation. Then I saw the ~sonic-club
Free For All contest, and my art is shit atm, can't draw worth shit, and it said you can do anything you wished, so I decided to try to make a game in flash!
This started as a very simple game with no real direction in it. I asked =Feather-Dancer
if I could stick her chara Chedder the Cheetah in it just for kicks, and it evolved from there. It is thanks to her that this game has a story to it now, and now my beloved Chedder has a bigger role in it! x3
Basic information about gameplay, use your mouse to collect rings and avoid badniks. And a special piece of advice, try to keep all the rings you get in the cheesey zones, you'll need 'em later. When instructed, you can lob your rings by clicking the mouse. Good luck and I hope you enjoy! Sure was fun making it!
Extra Behind The Scenes Tidbits:
The Emerald Hill zone was where I developed the game engine. If you can complete the game, you can click on credits and you can actually play the Emerald Hill zone where everything was developed and see all the variables I had it display to help me figure out just how they worked within Flash by clicking on the debug link. You can still get hit, but I disabled the loosing of the rings in there. And once you reach the end, it will go on forever so you'll have to hit Back to return to the main screen. Just a little forewarning so you don't keep going on expecting something to happen xD
The whole thing is rendered with Flash's vector images, bar the grassy area in Emerald Hill Zone. There were too many individual elements and it really lagged up my system while being scrolled, so I exported it as a image file then imported the image back in to flash so flash would have an easier time scrolling it. So that is the only pre-rendered scene so to speak.
Since you read this far down, I'll give an extra tip if your having trouble defeating Robotnik at the end. Robotnik has 3 levels of difficulty. The main is just very basic, as he just cycles through 3 points and fires his lazer when he gets there. When you knock his HP down to 75%, then he goes to the next level of difficulty which is he locks on to your current location on the screen, and when he gets there then he fires his lazer. He locks on to your location every time he fires, so if you wished you could hide out in one location of the screen, wait for him to fire then move to another location. And his last level of difficulty, when you knock him down to 15% or 25% health I believe it was (too lazy to check for sure xP), then he constantly is following you, and every time you pass in front of him he will fire his lazer. The only real strategy I can offer here is to be quick. I never put in a delay to make it so you could only throw one ring every so often, so if you pound the mouse button then you can throw them at a much more rapid rate and knock his HP down quicker. Sorry if this is a bit confusing, its 3 in the morning as I write this out of procrastination, but hopefully its enough to help
There is a bit of a glitch with the Newtrons which hang from the celing and stick their toungues down. I tried to fix it as best as I can, but this was mainly due to the limitations of Flash. The reason sometimes you get hit even when the tongue doesn't actually touch you is because of the actual movies' (i.e. the actual individual elements) rectangle which surrounds the whole movie counds as the hit area. And if the Newtron's tongue rectangle touches Tail's rectangle (even if it is empty space) then Flash registers it as a hit. If I had more time, I could have probably better managed the actual hitting rectangles, as I did with the Newtrons (before if you were even just under the newtron as the tongue went down you would hit cause the whole Newtron's rectangle would hit and not just the tongue). But this was my first game I've made, and you live and learn, and I shall take this into consideration into my next game which I plan on making it a lizardly sidescrolling survival horror type game
